Bark River Brook Trout Experiment
This experiment attempts to increase brook trout abundance so some of them will again enter Lake Superior and become coasters. Objective: Improve existing brook trout abundance enough to reconnect the stream population with it's lake shore habitat. Experiment initiatives include: Seeking ways to improve watershed health that restores instream conditions, habitat improvement at critical spawning sites, beaver control, restrictive angling regulations and monitoring population changes. Developing a Wisconsin Lake Superior Basin source brook trout brood to stock may be initiated to artificially increase the Bark River's brook trout abundance if the above initiatives are not sufficient to improve abundance.
