Employment Frequently Asked Questions
- Where should I send my resume and cover letter if I want to work for the DNR?
- The DNR does not keep resumes or a list of potential applicants on file. Check out our online list of job openings, either permanent jobs or limited term employment and apply for jobs if you're qualified and interested. Each job announcement will describe the skills and qualifications needed and give the location, a contact person for questions, and directions on how to apply.
- Do I have to be 18 to work for the DNR in the summer?
- Some of the Wisconsin state parks hire 16 to18 year olds, typically in laborer helper or clerical positions. Keep an eye on the announcements posted on our limited term employment website and review the job announcements posted in individual state park offices at which you'd consider working. The job announcements will list any age requirements.
- Does the DNR still sponsor Youth Conservation Camp?
- The DNR no longer sponsors the Youth Conservation Camps. You might want to check with Wisconsin Conservation Corps [exit DNR].
- How can I volunteer to work for the DNR?
- You can try contacting a Wisconsin state park to inquire whether they have any opportunities. Here are some additional volunteer links on the DNR website.
- How can I become a Conservation Warden?
- If you are interested in becoming a Wisconsin Conservation Warden, see Bureau of Law Enforcement
- Does DNR manage a formal internship program?
- DNR does not have a formal internship program. Rather, many students are hired as Limited Term Employees which may meet an internship requirement. In addition, you may want to check with your advisor to see if volunteer opportunities with our department and other natural resources organizations (Natural Resources Foundation) would also qualify for course requirements. Please check our limited term employment site for opportunities.
