Pine Siskin

Pine Siskin

This member of the finch family is an uncommon summer resident in northern Wisconsin nesting in conifer forests, but is somewhat common statewide in winter. Look for: notched tail, streaked underparts, and flash of yellow in wings and tail. Also characteristic is its wheezy "chleep" and "shreee" calls.

The pine siskin will come to feeders with thistle seed.
