Wisconsin Hunter Challenge

Protecting our hunting heritage

New! The 2012 results through the close of the deer season are in and they look good! An increase in hunter education graduates and nearly 29,000 new customers who received the first time buyer discount helped slow the decline of Wisconsin hunters. Hunting seasons are still open, so there is time to meet the goal in your county if not there yet!

The challenge

The objective of the Wisconsin Hunter Challenge is to slow the decline in hunter numbers. The challenge is to get individuals involved. We'll measure the number of hunters in three key age groups this year compared to the last two. The goal is to increase the number of counties where the number of hunters grows or stays stable.

This is hunters working in their own communities to protect our hunting heritage. The tools are out there and the DNR can help.

This is a tall task. There is no way it will be accomplished without you. Be the coordinator, the facilitator and be the leader in your home county.

Why it is important

  • Because hunting is a huge part of Wisconsin's heritage
  • Hunting and hunters are critical because they fund wildlife conservation.
  • Because right now there are many hunters who can contribute.
