Title:
Guidance on the Air Management Requirements Pertaining to the Incineration of Confiscated Drugs by Law Enforcement [AM2047]

Summary:
The Air Management Program would like to encourage the safe collection and management of all confiscated drugs or pharmaceutical waste. Accordingly, the Department is providing guidance on the use of the permit exemption in the air permit regulations pertaining to the incineration of drugs or pharmaceuticals that are confiscated or otherwise taken into possession by law enforcement officials. This exemption does not include drugs or pharmaceuticals collected from household pharmaceutical waste collection facilities or events (i.e. clean sweeps). Drug and pharmaceutical waste incineration that is excluded from air management regulation under this memo and follows the Waste & Materials Management Program Guidance (WA1052), is deemed in compliance with air, solid waste and hazardous waste regulations.
