Candlelight Ski and Hike

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Activities: Candlelight events, Cross country ski, Food, Hike, Night event, Outdoor activity, Snowshoeing
Location: Whitefish Dunes SP

Join the Friends of Whitefish Dunes and Park Staff for the Whitefish Dunes State Park annual winter candlelight event. Trails will be lit with hundreds of luminaires for both skiing and hiking/snowshoeing. Pets and sleds are not allowed on the ski trail portion of this event. If snow conditions are not favorable for skiing on the trails, a candlelit hike will still take place. Refreshments will be available. A park sticker is required and can be purchased upon arrival.

Candlelight skis/hikes are very popular events at DNR properties, with some attracting thousands of visitors on a given night. Given the recent publicity of these events through social media outlets and the department's responsibility to provide a safe recreational experience, access to these events may be restricted at times when parking capacity has been reached. Thank you for helping make these events a success.

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.
