First Day Hike

Time: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Activities: Hike, Outdoor activity, Snowshoeing
Location: Willow River SP

Please join us on this 2-mile hike on the Burkhardt Trail on the first day of the New Year! We'll start at the river bottom and walk up to the woods to view some spectacular overlooks. You can even walk down to the falls on this hike. Bring your own snowshoes if you would like to help walk through any deep snow.

Activities: Drop-in Program, Geocache, Hike, Outdoor activity

Get outside this winter with this fun "treasure hunting" activity. Learn how to geocache and then come on an adventure to find some cache's. Bring something that you can put back into the cache if you would like to take one. We will have a limited number of GPS units for you to use. Learn to Snowshoe

Get active this winter and try snowshoeing! After the first few steps along the guided trail, you will be on your way to this fun outdoor activity. Bring your own snowshoes or borrow one of our limited number of pairs. We will have complimentary hot cider and cocoa available along with cookies. Willow River Candlelight Ski, Hike and Snowshoe

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Activities: Candlelight events, Cross country ski, Hike, Night event, Outdoor activity, Snowshoeing
Location: Willow River SP

Join the fun at Willow River's Nature Center for our annual candlelight event. Enjoy 2-3 miles of candlelit trails for skiing, hiking and snowshoeing. There will be two bonfires and refreshments will be available. No pets allowed. This event is sponsored by The Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks. Candlelight skis/hikes are very popular events at DNR properties, with some attracting thousands of visitors on a given night. Given the recent publicity of these events through social media outlets and the department's responsibility to provide a safe recreational experience, access to these events may be restricted at times when parking capacity has been reached. Thank you for helping make these events a success.
