First Day Hike

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Activities: Hike, Outdoor activity
Location: Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit

Hike or snowshoe a 4.5-mile or 2.5-mile loop on the Brown and/or Green Trail. The hike will be co-lead by the Ice Age Trail Alliance and the Park Naturalist. Meet at the beach parking area by the north shelter. Dogs on a leash are welcome. Stop by the Forest Headquarters with a chance to warm up and drink hot chocolate. Admission stickers are not required for this event.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Chief Kewaskum Winter Snowshoe Hike

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Location: Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit

Come out and enjoy a winter campfire with friends, while learning about the history of Pike Lake. This 1.5-mile round-trip hike will give you the change to get engaged in the area's history, while enjoying the outdoors. Throughout this hike, Superintendent Rob will inform hikers about Chief Kewaskum's influence on Pike Lake. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk through the area where Chief Kewaskum's winter village site once existed. Meet at the amphitheater.

29th Annual Pike Lake Candlelight Ski and Hike

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Activities: Astronomy, Candlelight events, Cross country ski, Hike, Night event, Outdoor activity, Snowshoeing
Location: Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit

Hike, snowshoe or cross-country ski two 1-mile loops lit by more than 350 luminaries. Warm up at the North Shelter and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and snacks at the bonfire outside. Northern Cross Astronomy will have their telescopes out to view the crystal clear winter sky. Dogs on a leash are welcome. A vehicle admission sticker is required.

Candlelight skis/hikes are very popular events at DNR properties, with some attracting thousands of visitors on a given night. Given the recent publicity of these events through social media outlets and the department's responsibility to provide a safe recreational experience, access to these events may be restricted at times when parking capacity has been reached. Thank you for helping make these events a success.
