Universe in the Park

Time: 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Activities: Astronomy, Educational Programs, Night event, Outdoor activity
Location: Devil's Lake SP

Universe in the Park (UitP) is a popular outreach program of the UW-Madison Astronomy Department and is predicated on a very simple idea: the best environment in which to introduce the general public to astronomy is outside under dark skies. The UitP session begins with a 20-30 minute talk and slide presentation covering a broad view of astronomy and recent astronomical news. Following the presentation, a telescope is set up to view whatever astronomical objects are available. Question and answer period follows around the telescope.

Friends Halloween Hike

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Activities: Arts and Crafts, Candlelight events, Festivals, Food, Hike, Insect study, Music, Outdoor activity
Location: Devil's Lake SP

Join us for lots of Halloween fun! There's a lot to do at this annual event sponsored by the Friends of Devil's Lake. You can go on a 1-mile torch lit hike; show off your costume by the campfire while roasting a marshmallow or two, and listen to the songs of Campfire Kevin; enjoy some tasty treats sold by the Friends group; and find out about snakes! You can even make an snake to take home with you. The event is held at Chateau (North Shore Concessions).

Fall Night Scavenger Hunt and Campfire

Time: 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

A fall night is a great time to have some fun around the campfire! We'll have a nighttime glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunt, a chance to make a campfire treat, and fun activities like glow-in-the dark ring toss, and marshmallow launching contests. And, of course, a roaring fire to warm up by. These activities will happen outside the Nature Center.
