Smoke School

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) - Air Management program discontinued its smoke school (i.e. visible emission certification program) in August 2003 due to budgetary considerations. As a result, Wisconsin DNR no longer offers Visible Emission Certification (smoke school). We recommend you contact individual states and vendors directly regarding visible emission certification programs.

WDNR will accept visible emisssion (V.E.) readings for compliance demonstration purposes provided they are accompanied by proof of the reader's certification (copy of certification card, including certification date and expiration date) and submitted with the reported V.E. results. WDNR does not sponsor or approve visible emission certification programs. Individual V.E. certification can be obtained from any state agency or private vendor offering a V.E. certification program.
