Gays Mills sewage treatment plant operators use a canoe to reach and check their flooded treatment plant's bypass pumps.

The objective at this point was how to move sewage to the plant from flooded lines so that it did not spill into homes and run through streets. The plan was to pump as much water as possible at the treatment plant, which is downstream from the village. This much water is so diluted, treatment is impossible until floodwater recedes, so staff had to pump as much water at the plant and bypass here in a controlled manner to keep it away from people in town. This plant began bypassing raw sewage Sunday August 19, 2007.
