Urban Candlelight Hike

Time: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Activities: Candlelight events, Food, Hike, Night event, Outdoor activity
Location: Hank Aaron ST

Cure your cabin fever and come out for the first ever Urban Candlelight Hike! Enjoy two miles of candlelight hiking and snowshoeing on the Hank Aaron State Trail through Three Bridges Park. A roaring campfire and marshmallow roasting will be happening at the park and free hot chocolate and churros will be at the Urban Ecology Center for participants. Guided hikes will start at 6 and 7 p.m. Free admission to everyone! Sponsored by the Friends of the Hank Aaron State Trail, Menomonee Valley Partners and the Urban Ecology Center. Hank Aaron ST information

Named in honor of baseball legend Hank Aaron, this trail provides a continuous connection between Milwaukee's Miller Park Stadium and the Lake Michigan lakefront, as well as providing connections to famous Milwaukee landmarks such as the historic Ward Theatre on the grounds of the National Soldiers Home, the Wisconsin State Fair Park and the Pettit National Ice Center. Eventually the trail will connect with the Oak Leaf Trail near the Milwaukee/Waukesha county line and run along the southern edge of the Milwaukee County Zoo.

Candlelight Hike and Bonfire

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Activities: Candlelight events, Hike, Night event, Outdoor activity
Location: Yellowstone Lake SP

Enjoy a winter night in Yellowstone strolling by candlelight! Glowing luminaries will line your path along an easy 1-mile hike through the woods and along the dike above the frozen lake. If there's clear weather, the moonless sky will make for excellent stargazing. At the end of the trail, there will be a blazing bonfire to warm you up. Enjoy a hot beverages and roasting marshmallows. Indoor restrooms will be open! This family-friendly event is hosted by the Friends of Yellowstone Lake State Park! The event is free but a state park admission sticker is required. For more information call the park office at 608-523-4427.

Candlelight skis/hikes are very popular events at DNR properties, with some attracting thousands of visitors on a given night. Given the recent publicity of these events through social media outlets and the department's responsibility to provide a safe recreational experience, access to these events may be restricted at times when parking capacity has been reached. Yellowstone Lake SP information

Yellowstone Lake State Park is in the driftless area of southwest Wisconsin. This 1,000-acre park, has a 455-acre lake, which offers visitors ample space to enjoy camping, swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, biking and picnicking. In winter the park is open to ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.

Copper Culture Candlelight Hike

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Activities: Candlelight events, Hike, Night event, Snowshoeing
Location: Copper Culture SP

Join us for an evening hike/snowshoe, lit with luminaries through the woods and along the Oconto River. Trail starts at the shelter building. Warming fire and hot chocolate is provided. The event is free but donations are appreciated. For more information contact the Oconto Park's Department at 920-834-7706.

Copper Culture SP information

The 42-acre Copper Culture State Park is on the north side of the Oconto River, on the west side of the city of Oconto. It was the site of a prehistoric cemetery of the Old Copper Complex people who occupied the northern Midwest from ca. 4000 - 2000 BC. The park is for day use only.
